Patrick Vieira has been appointed as the new head coach of Senegal’s senior national team. The Senegalese Football Federation confirmed the appointment on a recent announcement. The federation added that the date of Vieira’s official presentation and the next steps in his installation will be communicated in a subsequent announcement.

Appointment Confirmed

The FSF welcomed the former Arsenal and France captain to the country, stating: “Welcome to Senegal, Coach.” Vieira’s appointment follows his departure from Italian side Genoa in November 2025, ending a spell away from management.

Vieira’s Coaching Journey

Vieira began his coaching career with Manchester City’s youth setup (2013-2015), then managed New York City FC in 2016. He returned to France to coach Nice (2018-2020), Crystal Palace (2021-2023), Strasbourg (2023-24), and then Genoa (2024-2025). This new role marks the biggest chapter of his coaching career, taking him to the international stage.

Next Steps for Senegal

The FSF will announce the official presentation date and further installation details. Senegal aims to build on recent successes and maintain its position among Africa’s leading football nations under Vieira’s guidance.
